For my first TED talks review I watched a video on how a woman named Danit Peleg, designed and printed her own clothing line on a 3D printer. Printing our own clothes at home will soon be a everyday thing, just like downloading music is. She would always experiment with new materials and like to go to factories and stores that were out-of-the-ordinary, in search of leftovers; like powders and strange materials. She would bring those materials home and begin to experiment with them making a mess all the time. However, do you think that her roomates liked that? No. So Peleg decided to move on to bigger machines such as knitting machines, 3D printers, laser machines and silk printing.
With 3D printing, she felt like she had the freedom to do almost anything and to design anything her heart desired. The materials for the priting, however, were very expensive and she knew that she would need a lot of material in order to finish her 5 outfits over a span of 9 months for her fashion collection. Another problem was that the plastic that she used for some of her outfits were hard plastic, which meant that they were easily breakable. It was also very uncomfortable for the models because it would scratch their skin.
Later on that year, her friend gave her a necklace which was from a 3D printer at home. She knew that the 3D printers at home were much more cheaper and more accessible; and if her friend could make jewelry from his house, then you can defenitely print your own clothes at YOUR OWN house.
She discovered a new material which was flexible ; it was called Filaflex. This was the material she used to finish her entire clothing collection.
