I really liked this TED Talk because John was very straightforward and didn't get off topic once. He was straightforward, and fast paced, which Is something I like in a speaker. In this TED Talk, John asked many different people while he was at the TED convention, in a room full of successful people. He asked tons of people, and almost had 500 different interviews with 500 different people asking them how they got successful. He concentrated all their "ways" and provided his students with a speech on how to be successful.
John says that the first thing that leads to success is passion. Do something because you love it, not because of the income you'll make from it, "If you do it for love, the money comes anyway".
Hard work is important if you want to be successful. You don't get anywhere by nothing. Nothing comes easily, yet you can still have fun while working hard to be successful.
Be good at what you do. To be successful you need to "get your nose down in something and get damn good at it". There isn't a such thing as magic in this case, it's all about practice, practice, practice.
Being focused plays a role in success. "It all has to do with focusing yourself to one thing".
Push yourself. Push yourself physically as well as mentally. You need to push yourself through shyness and self-doubt. It's not always easy to push yourself, but it's a good thing we have mother's.
Serve. You can't just serve yourself, you have to serve others something of value. Just like a millionaire.
Have ideas. The best things start off as an idea. An example would be Microsoft, "I had an idea- founding the first micro-computer software company". Listening, observing, curiosity, asking questions, problem solving and making connections are all lead to ideas.
Being persistant is a key to success. You have to persist through failure, crap aka criticism, rejection, a-holes,pressure.
Those were the 8 most common steps to success throughout Richard St. john's interviews.
