This TED Talk was super interesting in my opinion because it showed how from a young age, you can determine how successful that person will be once they are adults ; one of the most important keys to success is the ability to delay gratification and self discipline. In this TED Talk, a physcology professor took a group of kids who were 4 years old and put them in a room all by themselves in a room with one marshmallow. He told the kids "If you wait 15 minutes and DO NOT eat the marshmallow, you'll get a second marshmallow". As soon as he left the room, 2 out of 3 kids ate the marshmallow. The kids who didn't eat the marshmallow would find something better to do, every once in a while they'd smell the marshmallow or touch it, but they never took a bite out of it.
15 years later, the same kids were found again for a follow-up study. The kids were about 18 now. The kids who DIDN'T eat the marshmallow were successful and living happy lives, whereas the vast majority of kids who DID eat the marshmallow; they were doing bad in school and weren't successful.
Posada himself wanted to see if Hispanic kids would act the same way, so he went to Colombia and took a group of kids 4-6 years old. He got the same results; ( 2/3 kids ate the marshmallow, 1/3 didn't eat it).
To conclude, this applies to everyone. People who have restraint will be more successful than the person who needs to have something NOW or right at the moment, even if there is a better opportunity if they just wait a while and have some patience.
